Privacy Policy

News Research Assistant is a private-use utility operated for a single user's research workflows. This policy explains how it handles Google user data.

Google data the tool accesses

The tool requests the Gmail metadata permission. This permission can expose message identifiers, labels, subject lines, sender-related headers, and timestamps. The application is configured to process only messages carrying a specific user-managed label.

The tool does not request or process email bodies, attachments, drafts, contacts, or mailbox settings. It does not send, delete, modify, or move email.

How the data is used

Selected subject lines and limited headers are used to detect a news notification, prevent duplicate processing, assess sender authenticity, initiate research against public sources, and maintain an audit trail for private research and simulation.

Service providers and disclosure

Selected subject text may be processed by the OpenAI API for classification and research assistance. Google Cloud Pub/Sub is used to deliver mailbox-change notifications. Data is not sold, used for advertising, or disclosed to unrelated third parties.

Storage and security

OAuth credentials are stored in a restricted, non-public environment. Selected metadata and derived research records may be retained in a private database for reproducibility, diagnostics, and evaluation until the operator deletes them or discontinues the tool. No mailbox data is published through this website.

User control and deletion

The operator can stop processing at any time, delete stored records, and revoke Google access from the Google Account permissions page. Revoking access prevents the tool from obtaining new Gmail metadata.

Google API Services User Data Policy

The tool's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Changes

This policy may be updated when the tool's data handling changes. The effective date shown above will be updated at the same time.
